This informational guide provides an overview of aquatic therapy applied to children with Down syndrome from an occupational therapy perspective. Down syndrome, resulting from trisomy 21, is associated with physical and cognitive developmental challenges, requiring specialized interventions to improve the quality of life for those affected. The guide also offers information for various professionals and families to incorporate aquatic therapy into treatment plans, thereby promoting a better quality of life and social inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome. The document is organized into several sections, beginning with a detailed definition of Down syndrome and its effects on those who experience it. Next, it describes the most relevant properties of water in the context of therapy, and finally, these properties are cited and related to their specific benefits in treatment. Additionally, the final section includes an annex with basic guidelines for implementing a fundamental pediatric life support chain of action. The development of this guide is the result of a combination of a theoretical component, based on the analysis of publications and documents related to the topic, and a practical component, derived from the student’s professional experience during placements at the aquatic therapy center Apnea, located in the province of Alicante, as well as from a specialized course taken at the same center.
