The Impostor is a graphic novel combining suspense and psychological drama, designed to raise awareness of Capgras syndrome, a rare neuropsychiatric disorder that causes sufferers to be unable to emotionally recognize their loved 2 ones, leading them to believe that these people have been replaced by identical doubles or impostors. The main aim of this work is to demonstrate the potential of the language of comics as an artistic and empathetic tool for portraying complex clinical realities. Narratively, the work departs from traditional structures and is organised around four personal letters that the protagonist, Kenji, writes to his psychologist. Thanks to this structure, the reader can immerse themselves in the sense of grief, isolation and confusion experienced by the character following the supposed ‘loss’ of his partner, Nico, whilst the mystery surrounding their joint therapy is maintained until the final chapter. Visually, this work details the entire digital production process carried out using Adobe Illustrator and Procreate. It describes the creation of a distinctive graphic style that draws inspiration from contemporary anime, whilst also making use of a monochromatic colour palette (where blue symbolises loneliness, red emotional bonds, and black the harsh reality of the mind) alongside visual effects such as pixelation, which represents the fragmentation of everyday memories. Finally, it concludes that a visual contrast seeks to convey the clash between the character’s inner delirium and the beginning of their actual recovery process.es_ES
