This paper reviews the tasks performed by one of the most common figures on a film set, and one whose importance is overlooked due to his or her very nature as a labourer: the production assistant.
A brief analysis is made of the current situation of the general audiovisual panorama in order to put the reader in context. Both the Spanish box office and the differences between large and small, national and foreign productions, and how the production assistant is treated in them in terms of salary differences, tasks to be carried out depending on whether it is a large or small production, size of the team, etc. This text is based on my own experience as a production assistant on the following shoots: Espíritu Sagrado, by Chema García Ibarra, produced by Jaibo Films and Apellaniz & De Sosa; Sin huellas, a Prime Video series produced by Zeta Studios and Amazon Studios; The Covenant, by Guy Ritchie, produced by Fresco Film Services and Escanyapobres, by Ibai Abad, produced by Abacus, Mayo Films and Nakamura Films. After an introduction of the main production companies, we will go on to describe the tasks carried out from within each fiction project in all the phases in which I was involved, whether it was pre-production, production or the last tasks after the end of filming.
