Abstract:

This TFG studies the effect of relative humidity on the atmospheric aerosol light scattering in a suburban environment, based on certain optical (σsp and SAE) and mass (PM10, PM2,5) parameters during the first half of 2023. Two nephelometers (Aurora 3000 and 4000) have been used to carry it out. The study was divided into two campaigns, being the first one directed to the correlation study between both nephelometers to evaluate the effect of hygroscopicity of the aerosols in the second campaign. The highest mean values of 𝜎𝑠𝑝 (525 𝑛𝑚) were obtained duringthe impact of a Saharan dust intrusion: 110±30 Mm-1. The aerosol fine mode scatters visible light more efficiently than the coarse mode, with mass scattering efficiencies of 1,3±0,3 m2/g and 3,2±0,5 m2/g, respectively. The dispersion values recorded in wet sample are approximately 25-30% higher than those measured in dry sample which confirms the increasing of aerosols size (SAEA3000 = 0,9 and SAEA4000 = 1,1) when relative humidity is above 40%.
