Gender Violence or Domestic Violence is a reality today in all societies worldwide. This
implies that, to a greater or lesser extent, women in all countries are affected by inequality
and the problem of gender violence.
Globally, it is estimated that one in three women (736 million) has ever experienced
physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner, or sexual violence perpetrated by
someone other than their partner (30% of women aged 15 and over). In addition, among
women who have been in a relationship, almost one in four adolescents aged 15 to 19
(24%) have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by their partner or husband
(ONU, 2022).
As we can see, women begin to experience some type of gender violence from the age
of 15 and that is why the concern arises about the perception that women and men present
regarding gender violence in universities. Because university studies begin on average at
the age of 18 (Universia, 2020), it is worth worrying about the awareness that students
have about gender violence.
This is the context in which the realization of this work arises, which will focus on
analyzing how universities are involved in gender violence (equality plans, prevention
measures, internal communication ...). Likewise, because it is the university in which I
have carried out my studies, in this work, there will be an exhibition of the actions that the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) carries out and has carried out regarding gender
violence.
After analyzing the problem of gender violence, its recognition in legislation and the
measures that international universities carry out for its eradication, the mechanisms or
channels of internal communication that the UMH could use to share a possible protocol
of actuation in situations of gender-based violence or any measure regarding equality or
gender-based violence.
Finally, conclusions and recommendations will be presented regarding the use that the
UMH could give to internal communication to contribute to the eradication of gender
violence in the university environment.
