Thyroid disease is considered a global health problem for all people, but it particularly affects pregnancy and childhood (1). Normal thyroid function in the mother is essential for fetal development (2). The prevalence of thyroid disease in pregnant women is high (2). The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in the pregnant population of our country is between 5% and 15%, with hyperthyroidism being less frequent (3). Hypothyroidism is variably associated with adverse outcomes such as fetal loss, preterm birth, and adverse neurocognitive outcomes in offspring (4). The risk of complications is greater in women with positive anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO-Ab) (5). According to the comprehensive care plan for women in Region de Murcia (PIAM), the thyrotropin hormone (TSH) is requested in the first trimester of all pregnant women. The available evidence on the prevalence of functional thyroid disorders is very heterogeneous. It was decided to design this study with the aim of knowing the prevalence of thyroid pathology in pregnant women and their newborns in Region de Murcia. To achieve this, an observational design, type of Prevalence or Cross-sectional, retrospective, and multicenter study, whose field of study is Primary Care, has been designed. The selection of the participants will be carried out by random sampling stratified by Health Area and the variables collected in Table 1 will be analyzed. A sample of pregnant women over 14 years of age will be included in the study, who have the medical history correctly completed. The results of this study could be very useful to assess the state of thyroid health in pregnant women and their newborns in the region of Murcia and to know the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction, as well as serve as a basis to continue planning health services in Region de Murcia related to this pathology.
