Running is one of the most popular exercises which practise increases year after year. Despite the benefits this activity gives to our health, running can also expose us to get injured.
Materials and methods: A descriptive study was done based on 46 runners, to evaluate the most common injuries. Information has been obtained through a questionnaire of 16 items. The Buist´s, et al.17 definition of injury was used, which defines it as any musculoskeletal pain in the lower limbs as a result of running, and that prevent from doing it for at least 1 day.
Results: The 52,2% of the runners reported an injury, and 31 injuries were noticed among them. The most usual injuries were the plantar fasciitis, as the 22,6% of the injured had it, followed by ankle sprains (16,1%) and other muscle injuries (12,9%).
Conclusion: The most frequent injuries in runners lower limbs are many, although according to this study they are the plantar fasciitis and sprained ankles. Injuries have their origin in multiple reasons, but being under 35 years old and an IMC less than 25, could be risk factors. In spite of this, we need more studies to evaluate footwear, type of foot and footstep, and the lesion process to set strategies to prevent injuries in lower limbs.
