Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic inflammatory condition characterised by painful lesions, nodules and abscesses on the skin. Oral administration of some retinoids, such as acitretin and isotretinoin, are used to treat this disease, however, they can cause side effects in the body. Therefore, in order to manage this disease without causing these adverse effects in patients, in this work an alternative treatment has been carried out by encapsulating these retinoids separately in different types of polymeric nanofibres, for subsequent transdermal administration in the affected areas of the skin. These nanofibres were synthesised using the eletrohyilation technique, from different polymeric solutions made with the polymers PMVEMA-ES and PMVEMA-Ac, which are biocompatible and biodegradable. The nanofibres were characterised by optical and electron microscopy, and the stability of the compounds encapsulated in the different fibres was studied over time. In vitro release assays were also performed using Franz cells, as well as cell viability in a keratinocyte line (HaCaT).
