A world immersed in avalanches of information, thanks to the joint action between technology and the global network, does not necessarily imply that its members are well informed, much less that they know everything. Given these current conditions, curiously it is necessary to look back to a traditional media practice, which stands as an alternative-double-edged, however, before the hyperabundance and disorder of data about what happens around people : the agenda-setting In this sense, a qualitative- quantitative analysis of the publications of the Ecuadorian newspaper El Comercio, corresponding to the second semester of 2017, revealed how the mechanisms of the classical theory of McCombs and Shaw are capable of contributing to the construction of a national reality -and, to a lesser extent, international- fragmented, hierarchical, categorized, but assimilated and socially legitimized by the public.
