Fútbol sala: el deporte rey sin corona

Abstract

El fútbol sala es un deporte que nace en los años treinta en Uruguay con la intención de implementar una versión reducida del fútbol para que se pudiera practicar en pistas cubiertas. Este deporte llega a España en la década de los setenta de forma amateur. En el año 1989 se funda la Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala (LNFS) mediante la unión de los clubes. Este deporte alcanzó su época dorada en los años 2.000 con futbolistas reconocidos internacionalmente, retransmisiones constantes en abierto, grandes inversiones y éxitos deportivos que convirtieron al futsal en el deporte de moda en España. Sin embargo, una serie de conflictos internos y la desaparición de grandes superestrellas mediáticas han hecho del fútbol sala un deporte apartado del foco mediático. Es innegable su arraigo al fútbol tradicional, el deporte rey en España, pero ni de lejos se asemeja en repercusión a su “hermano mayor”. Dirigido por los mismos estamentos, la RFEF, la UEFA y la FIFA, el fútbol sala vive una realidad preocupante en cuanto a repercusión. Además, el futsal representa una gran fábrica de talento para el fútbol tradicional, contando nombres como los de Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Isco Alarcón o David Silva en el apartado nacional; y a estrellas como Neymar JR y Marcelo Vieira en el internacional. Futsal is a sport that originated in Uruguay in the 1930s with the intention of implementing a smaller version of football so that it could be played indoors. This sport arrived in Spain in the 1970s as an amateur sport. In 1989, the National Futsal League (LNFS) was founded through the union of clubs. The sport reached its golden age in the 2000s with internationally renowned players, constant free-to-air broadcasts, large investments and sporting successes that made futsal the most popular sport in Spain. However, a series of internal conflicts and the disappearance of major media superstars have pushed futsal out of the media spotlight. Its roots in traditional football, the king of sports in Spain, are undeniable, but it is nowhere near as influential as its ‘big brother.’ Governed by the same bodies, the RFEF, UEFA and FIFA, futsal is facing a worrying situation in terms of its impact. Furthermore, futsal is a great talent factory for traditional football, with names such as Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Isco Alarcón and David Silva at national level, and stars such as Neymar JR and Marcelo Vieira at international level. This makes the neglect with which futsal is treated in Spain even more surprising.
