In the Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 2008, transposed by Law 22/2011, of 28 July, waste and contaminated soil, states that by 2020 the amount domestic and comercial for the preparation for reuse and recycling of fractions of paper, metals, glass, plastics, bio-waste or other reciclable waste fractions must reach collectively at least 50% by weight. Together with the importance of bio-waste in municipal waste (50% corresponding to the organic fraction of MSW of Spain), the normative compliance is achieved by recycling. Therefore, this Master's Thesis is to determine one or more treatment alternatives to ensure the compliance normative, and ensure in future the correct implementation of the fifth container in the municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid. After selecting an optimal alternative treatment, we proceeded to the analysis of alternatives to use the product obtained. To determine the above, has made a study of the current situation of the municipality as geography, demography, housing distribution, etc. In addition to a study reflecting current management of RSU, quantity, characteristics, etc. Through information from the National Institute of Statistics, Rivas-Vaciamadrid web page, and internal information provided by the company Rivamadrid. With this information, we have studied the most optimal treatment options for biowaste estimated in the municipality, establishing the aerobic treatment by composting and obtaining bio stabilized as the most appropriate. Recycling of bio stabilized material is considered a cheap alternative, while composting is a sanitized and stabilized material for great value for soil remediation and plant development, although more expensive. The compost can be marketed as organic substrate in the three landscaping companies in the municipality, or in parks and public or private gardens. Also in the recovery of degraded soils in the Southeast Regional Park, while bio-stabilized materials uses are more limited, and can be used in rehabilitation of degraded soils or topsoil for works
