The population dynamics of wild ungulates are characterized by presenting high-density episodes of high mortality associated with disease outbreaks, some of them could be transmitted by ticks. This project analyzes the presence of several pathogens (genus: Ehrlichia sp, Anaplasma sp, Neorickettsia sp, Babesia sp y Theileria sp) in the blood of fallow deer (Dama dama), deer (Cervus elaphus) and ibex (Capra pyrenaica) of the Natural Park of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and las Villas. A total of 20 samples (10 healthy and 10 sick) were analyzed by PCR and sequenced whenever possible for its identification. Sixteen were found positive for Theileria spp with a prevalence of 80% and 14 positive for Anaplasma spp with a prevalence of 70%, and coinfection in 55% of the samples. The analyzed samples were carriers of Theileria capreoli, T. OT3, T. cervi and Anaplasma bovis. Wild ungulates are important reservoir of the identified pathogens. However, the high prevalence detected suggest that they do not play a role as direct responsible of massive mortalities, but act as opportunistic parasites contributing to the death of the animal in interaction with other factors.
