El Palmeral de Elche: una joya a defender

Abstract

El Palmeral de Elche es una joya de más de 200 mil palmeras dentro de la ciudad. Es considerado el más grande de Europa y uno de los más grandes del mundo. Fue en el año 2000 cuando la UNESCO le otorgó el merecido reconocimiento de Patrimonio de la Humanidad. El Palmeral es el corazón latente que ha quedado del legado de Al-Andalus en Elche. Está formado por huertos de palmeras estructurados en el siglo VIII d.C con sistemas de riego complejos que presentan un interés particular. El picudo rojo aterrizó en Elche en 2005. Se trata de un insecto de unos cinco centímetros y de origen tropical que siente una gran atracción por las palmeras. Desde que llegó al Palmeral de Elche provocó la tala de un gran número de árboles. En los últimos datos publicados el Ayuntamiento de la ciudad asegura que el 99% del Palmeral está libre de esta amenaza. Como los medios de comunicación juegan un papel clave en la difusión de información sobre el Palmeral y el picudo el objetivo de este reportaje es el uso de newsgame y gamificación con el fin de favorecer el interés de los ilicitanos por la joya que poseen y su necesaria protección.
