In the present work, we have studied five pre-commercial hybrids of Piel de sapo melon, developed by Monsanto respect to their parental lines, including two commercial controls to analyse the heterosis or hybrid vigour and stability of the new F1 hybrid generation. For this, have been considered characteristics such production, waste, size, firmness, soluble solids, vigour and health of the plant, fruit shape, uniformity, visual appearance, netting and taste. After analysing the results of this trial, obtaining melon F1 hybrids is not based on the existence of heterosis or the greater stability. This fact, in part, may be due that nowadays with genetic improvement, seed companies are able to obtain parental lines with excellent qualities and very stable. It should not be forgotten that another of the reasons for the creation of hybrids F1 by seed companies is the commercial advantage they obtain from them, since producers need to buy the seed every year to ensure uniform production and quality of these.
