Abstract:
The mechanical lathe has been one of the most influential machines in industrial development since its origins. This project focuses on the study of a lathe manufactured in the early 20th century, a machine that retains many of the characteristic features of a period when workshops were transitioning from belt-driven line shaft systems to the incorporation of electric motors.
This particular lathe was selected because, despite its age, it allows the observation of the original design principles from which modern lathes have evolved.
On the one hand, this work involves the creation of a 3D model of the lathe using Autodesk Inventor. To achieve this, measurements were taken directly from the real machine, with the aim of reproducing its geometry and proportions as accurately as possible.
On the other hand, a study has been carried out to determine the motor power required to operate the machine if it were to be put back into service.
In addition to the 3D modelling and mechanical calculations, the project includes a brief historical overview of the evolution of the lathe, a description of its main components, and a basic safety study related to its operation.
In this way, the project provides a comprehensive overview of the machine, covering its historical origins, design characteristics, and current operating principles.
