Abstract

Viaje al centro del arbitraje se adentra en el mundo del fútbol desde la perspectiva de los árbitros. Desde la mayoría de los sectores, futbolistas, cuerpos técnicos, clubes, prensa, siempre parece que ellos son los malos de la película, pero se olvida muchas veces que sin árbitros, no habría función. Desde la llegada en 2016 del video arbitraje, la polémica de este deporte ha virado para, además de señalar a los colegiados que imparten justicia, hacerlo también con los que se encuentran en la sala VOR con el objetivo de ayudar a sus compañeros en el campo. Este podcast se enmarca dentro del género periodístico de investigación pues se trata de intentar mostrar al mundo cómo funciona el video arbitraje y, en especial, de humanizar al colectivo arbitral. Los cuatro episodios sirven para que el oyente intente ahuyentar los prejuicios hacia los colegiados e intentar en la medida de lo posible, concienciar al público de que los ataques constantes que reciben, son totalmente inaceptables, aunque parezca que estén socialmente aceptados. Es una profesión que parece que con el paso de los años se está extinguiendo ya que poca gente quiere exponerse a tales situaciones. Este trabajo cuenta con los testimonios en primera persona del Director del proyecto VAR en España, Don Carlos Clos Gómez; el Director de Competiciones de La Liga, Don Raúl Ojeda; el periodista de As y árbitro, Don Uxío Caamaño y el periodista de Cope, Isaac Fouto. Durante el transcurso de los episodios se incide en explicar cómo funciona la Sala Var, situada en Las Rozas, cómo comenzó todo el proyecto del uso de la herramienta, los ataques y polémica a los que están sometidos los colegiados y qué depara el futuro en cuanto a tecnología en el fútbol.

Trip to the Center of Refereeing delves into the world of football from the perspective of referees. From most sectors—players, coaching staff, clubs, and the media—they often appear to be the villains of the story. Yet it is frequently forgotten that without referees, the game simply wouldn’t exist. Since the introduction of video refereeing in 2016, controversy in the sport has taken a new direction: criticism now targets not only the referees on the pitch, but also those in the VOR room, whose role is to assist their colleagues on the field. This podcast falls under the category of investigative journalism, aiming to reveal how video refereeing works and, above all, to humanize the refereeing community. Across its four episodes, the podcast seeks to challenge common prejudices against referees and, as far as possible, raise awareness that the constant abuse they endure is entirely unacceptable—even if it may seem normalized by society. Refereeing is a profession that, over time, appears to be in decline, as fewer people are willing to subject themselves to such conditions. The podcast includes first-hand testimonies from Carlos Clos Gómez, Director of the VAR Project in Spain; Raúl Ojeda, Director of Competitions at La Liga; Uxío Caamaño, journalist at As and referee; and Isaac Fouto, journalist at Cope. Throughout the episodes, listeners are guided through how the VAR Room in Las Rozas operates, how the project got off the ground, the scrutiny and controversy surrounding referees, and what lies ahead for football technology
