Similitudes y diferencias en la sintomatología obsesivo-compulsiva y autista: aportaciones desde la neurociencia

Abstract

En los últimos años diversos estudios internacionales han destacado la importancia de las variables transdiagnósticas comunes a diferentes trastornos mentales. En el caso concreto de los trastornos del espectro obsesivo-compulsivo y del espectro autista, éstos comparten síntomas comunes relacionados con la conducta repetitiva. El presente estudio tiene el objetivo de realizar una revisión sobre las semejanzas y diferencias neuropsicológicas y de neuroimagen cerebral entre el TOC y el autismo. Se concluye que existen aspectos sintomatológicos similares como las conductas repetitivas y alteraciones en las funciones ejecutivas entre ambos trastornos. Sin embargo, los sujetos con autismo presentan alteraciones generalizadas en los distintos tipos de memoria y una disminución de la actividad cerebral en diversas estructuras neuronales, mientras que los sujetos con trastorno obsesivo-compulsivo presentan déficits más concretos en la memoria no verbal e hiperactividad funcional en los lóbulos frontales y córtex cingulado anterior.

In recent years several international studies have highlighted the importance of common transdiagnostic variables, as well as the high coexistence of disorders and the overlap of symptoms in different mental disorders, especially in children. In the specific case of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, as well as autistic spectrum disorders, they share common symptoms of repetitive behavior. The present study aims to conduct a review to show the similarities and differences in neuropsychological and neuroimaging of cerebral symptoms of autism and obsessive-compulsive spectrums. We conclude that there are common symptomatological aspects such as repetitive behaviors and alterations in executive functions for both obsessive-compulsive and autism spectrum disorders. However, subjects with autism present widespread amendments in the different types of memory, and a decrease in brain activity in different neural structures, while subjects with obsessive-compulsive disorder have more specific deficits in nonverbal memory and functional hyperactivity in the frontal and anterior cingulate cortex.
