Abstract:
Hemos rea... Ver más
In this work, we report the sequencing, de novo assembly and annotation of the
complete chloroplast genome of garlic (Allium sativum L.). The genome was sequenced
using the Illumina HiSeq 2500 next-generation sequencing platform, using 101-bp paired-end
reads. The sequence was assembled using Velvet software. The chloroplast genome of
garlic is a circular, double-stranded DNA molecule with a total length of 153,131 base pairs
(bp), which consists of two inverted repeats (IRa and IRb; 26,492 bp each) that are located
between a small single copy region (SSC; 18,042 bp) and a large single copy region (LSC;
82,105 bp). The annotation uncovered 136 functional genes (including 90 protein-coding
genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes) and 6 pseudogenes. Finally, we
performed a phylogenetic analysis with the amino acid sequences of 17 conserved, plastidencoded
proteins from 14 different plant species, including monocots and dicots, in order to
investigate the evolutionary history of Allium sativum
