Obsessive-compulsive disorder is one of the most disabling disorders for the person who suffers from it. The main objective of this work was to show the efficacy of therapy in one case. The secondary objective was to reduce the emotional intensity of the disorder, enhancing emotional regulation through dialectical behavioral therapy and relaxation. To this end, this paper presents a single case study of a 33-year-old woman with obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD symptomatology was evaluated with specific measures that allowed us to obtain data on the presence and dimension of obsessions and compulsions, obsessive beliefs, the presence of depressive symptomatology, levels of trait and state anxiety, and associated symptomatology. Similarly, the degree of emotional dysregulation was assessed using an interview and a questionnaire. The patient presented mainly obsessions related to contamination, and excessive worry, and compulsions associated with cleaning and checking rituals. Treatment consisted of a cognitive-behavioral intervention, combining exposure with response prevention and cognitive restructuring, emotion-focused dialectical behavioral therapy, and relaxation exercises. The results indicated that, after the therapy application, an improvement was achieved in all the variables evaluated (between 28% and 57% magnitude of change), except for anxiety-trait, which improved to a lesser extent (16%). The main conclusion of the study is that, despite the general improvement, a prolongation of the intervention seems necessary to improve the limitations raised in this study.
