Introduction: Plantar fasciopathy represents a chronic and multifactorial health problem. Self-management strategies in treatment offer benefits for short- and long-term recovery, but adherence to these strategies is complex. Education aims to simplify knowledge about the pathology and active management to alleviate symptoms, thus improving the quality of life for patients.
Objective: To identify the most effective active self-management strategies for patients related to plantar fasciopathy through a review of the scientific literature.
Methodology: A bibliographic search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane and PEDro databases, yielding 857 results, from which 10 articles meeting the inclusion criteria were ultimately selected.
Results: Stretching programs have been shown to be effective compared to other techniques, especially specific plantar fascia stretching. Additionally, these stretches, combined with physical therapy or muscle strengthening exercises, show significant improvements in functionality, pain, and patient satisfaction.
Conclusions: Self-management programs, such as stretching and strengthening exercises, are prominent in treating plantar fasciopathy, showing significant improvements in recovery. However, the lack of consensus on educational strategies, frequency, dosage and duration may impact long-term benefits.
