Introduction: plantar fasciitis is one of the most common pathologies, affecting 10% of the population and presenting symptoms of pain in the heels and soles of the feet, characterized by inflammation and/or degeneration of the fascia. After a correct diagnosis, and after the failure of conventional treatments, shock wave therapy and corticosteroid infiltration could be the most effective treatments for this pathology. Objectives: to compare shock wave therapy and corticosteroid infiltration as treatments for plantar fasciitis and to analyse which is better in the short and long term. Methodology: a search was performed in two databases (Pubmed and Scopus) according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The keywords used were plantar fasciitis, infiltration, shockwave therapy, corticosteroid, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, and methodological quality was assessed Results: 17 articles were chosen for this bibliographic review because the were adapted to the main theme. These articles, analyzed in detail, had good methodological quality including clinical trials, observational studies, experimental studies and meta-analyses. Conclusion: corticosteroid infiltration provides fast but temporary pain relief. Shockwave therapy offers more delayed, but longer lasting, symptomatic relief. The choice of treatment should be based on the individual needs of the patient
