Introduction: Sensory Processing (SP) is a complex mechanism in which the central nervous system receives, modulates, and organizes sensory information in order to understand the environment and thus respond to the demands of the environment. There is currently no bibliometric study on the evolution of SP, so this study aims to present an overview of trends in SP research and terminology over the last 20 years. Methodology: The literature search was conducted using the Web of Science database between 2002 and 2022. Data were collected on authors and top-producing countries, keywords, comparative terminology used over the years and the date on which the article was published. All analyses were carried out with R software and, specifically, with the "Bibliometrix" package. Results: The data showed an exponential growth in SP research, with the largest producer being the United States and the author with the most publications in this area being Batya Engel-Yeger. In addition, from 2007 onwards, a change in terminology usage was observed, from Sensory Integration to SP. Finally, the three most prominent keywords were "sensory processing", "sensory" and "sensory integration". Conclusion: The analysis of the data found in the bibliometric review provides an exhaustive analysis of the current state of SP in the field of Occupational Therapy, providing a guide that serves as a target for future research.
