The educational system is changing towards a more competency based methodological approach, as established in current legislation, LOMLOE (2022). However, there are educational centers that continue to use traditional methodologies that do not guarantee that students can develop competencies. The bibliographic review seeks to demonstrate the importance of using formative evaluation in an integrated manner with active learning methodologies so that students find, in the teaching process, more meaningful learning, by being part of the process, regulating and enhancing it. Its students in a way that contributes to the development of skills. It is important to know the advantages of formative evaluation and active methodologies, but it is also necessary to know the difficulties or obstacles to its application. Consequently, understanding how to use strategies and procedures to incorporate formative assessment to implement active methodologies can serve to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the methodology used by the PE teacher in class.
