Abstract

Chile enfrenta un gran desafío en materias de áreas marinas protegidas, porque si bien cuenta con grandes extensiones amparadas bajo alguna figura de protección, en materia de financiamiento, ges-tión y representatividad de las ecorregiones marinas presenta series deficiencias. Para esto, recien-temente se aprobó la Ley de la Naturaleza, la que implica profundos cambios institucionales concen-trando la creación de las áreas protegidas, y entre ellas las áreas marinas, en el Ministerio del Medio Ambiente y creando un nuevo organismo a cargo de la gestión de todas estas áreas, el SBAP
