Introduction. Bronchiolitis is a respiratory disease affecting infants up to 2 years of age and is a major cause of paediatric hospitalisation, characterised by inflammation of the bronchioles. The most common symptoms are nasal congestion, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and fatigue. Severity can range from mild cases treatable in primary care to more severe cases requiring hospitalisation. Objectives. To carry out a review of the literature to provide an overview of the most current and effective respiratory physiotherapy treatments to help with the effective treatment of acute bronchiolitis in children from 0 to 2 years of age. Material and methods. Bibliographic search in the databases PubMed, Web Of Science, SciELO, Scopus, Cochrane and PEDro of articles published in the last five years. Results. The use of HFCN and/or prolonged slow expiration and provocative cough is effective in mild to moderate patients. For critically ill patients CPAP or NPPV is recommended. The most important risk factors are age less than 6 months, congenital heart disease and low socioeconomic status. EDIN, Wang score and m-WCAS are used to measure the severity of the pathology. Conclusion. Further study of bronchiolitis treatment is required to develop up-to-date protocols based on scientific evidence. Knowledge of these protocols by healthcare professionals and patients' relatives could prevent complications and improve treatment.
