Introduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is one of the most prevalent knee injuries, and blood flow restriction training (BFRT) is a current and novel technique that, combined with therapeutic exercise, can be very beneficial in preventing relapses and completing a good recovery according to evidence.
Objectives: To evaluate the effects of BFRT in post-surgical patients after ACL rupture, as well as the levels of occlusion and the type of exercises used in rehabilitation.
Material and methods: A literature search was carried out in the Pubmed, PEDro, Scopus, Science direct and Cochrane databases for randomised clinical trials less than 5 years old in Spanish or English.
Results: A total of 150 articles were found, of which 8 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and 6 of them used the leg press exercise and an occlusion level of 80% of the LOP. The most repeated measured variables are strength, pain, physical function of the knee and perceibed effort.
Conclusions: The use of BFR in patients undergoing post-surgical rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament rupture using leg press produces improvements mainly in quadriceps and hamstring strength, pain, physical function of the knee and perceibed effort, using an occlusion of 80% of the LOP
