Introduction: The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is an intra-articular element whose function is
to control the anterior movement of the tibia and tibial rotation, giving stability to the knee. His injury
is common among athletes whose activity includes jumping, landing or changing direction,
generating emotional, social, physical and economic problems. The key purposes in recovery are to
regain range of motion, muscle strength, and return to previous levels of activity.
Objective: To investigate and compare which physiotherapy interventions produce better results in
patients after ACL reconstruction.
Material and metodhs: Bibliographic search in the Pubmed, Cochrane, PEDro, Science Direct,
Scopus and Web of Science databases, of trials published from 2010.
Results: A total of ten clinical trials are obtained after having used the inclusion and exclusion
criteria, in which different intervention protocols in physiotherapy are shown.
Conclusions: There is evidence that preoperative strength and proprioception work, accompanied
after surgery by a protocol of neuromuscular training, strengthening with electrical stimulation, cross
training, plyometric exercises, and hip strengthening improve muscle power and function of the
muscles around the knee.
