PTSD is classified as a disorder related to trauma and stress factors resistant to conventional treatment. For this reason, ketamine has been used for its treatment, since this substance acts on the cerebral glutamatergic system, a circuit in which the symptomatology of this disorder also has an impact. The aim of this work is to review the scientific evidence regarding the use of ketamine in the treatment of PTSD. Systematic reviews written in English were searched in Pubmed, Cochrane, Psycinfo, Scopus and Embase databases. Taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 9 studies were finally selected to be included in this umbrella review. The results obtained showed that the use of ketamine was effective in several studies in the first 24 hours, but finally no long-term evidence of symptom reduction was shown. No significant differences were also shown in combination with TIMBER psychotherapy. As for the limitations of this study, there is a need for further research regarding the use of ketamine in the treatment of PTSD.
