The Qatar World Cup has become a historic and unprecedented event due to the peculiarity of the host country, the controversy of its election and the footballing experience, where the Argentine national team was crowned world champion for the third time, led by the figure of Lionel Messi, who is considered the best player in the history of football.
This work covers everything that happened before and during a World Cup that broke barriers in every sense of the word. It is the first World Cup not held in summer, being autumn the season in which it was held; it is also the first World Cup held in an Arab country with a Muslim majority; on the other hand, it is the third World Cup held in Asia, something unusual and which only has as a precedent the one held in Japan and South Korea in 2002, and the venue of Ekaterinburg in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, belonging to the Asian continent; it is also the shortest World Cup, 29 days, and in which the most goals have been scored, with an average of 2.69 goals per match. It is also the World Cup with the longest waiting time, if we do not take into account the Second World War era, when no such tournaments were held, as is to be expected.
On the other hand, Qatar 2022 will be remembered for being the most expensive World Cup in history, 220 billion euros were invested in its preparation and organisation, all to be dismantled once the World Cup was over. And this issue, the designation of the tournament itself in this country, and the scams that led to this situation led to the 22nd edition also becoming the most controversial in history, due to the famous 'Qatargate' case, also developed in this Final Degree Project. It is true that the footballing aspect made us forget the controversy, but the 6,500 deaths denounced by Amnesty International also sullied a spectacle in which the two PSG stars, by chance, ended up being the protagonists in a fragrant final worth remembering.
Qatar is a before and after in the history of the World Cup, and the testimonies of those who witnessed it live are key to this work in order to understand the reason for its peculiarity and distinction from the rest.
