The main objective of this work was to carry out a comprehensive study on the treatment of urban waste, focusing on one of the innovative composting methodologies: composting in decentralized plants. Through this approach, we tried to understand in detail the various aspects of the process that influence its efficiency and performance. This was achieved by conducting a detailed analysis of the factors that affect the performance of composting in decentralized plants. This included considering aspects such as temperature, humidity, carbon-to-nitrogen ratio and composting time. By understanding how these factors interrelate and affect the waste decomposition process, it will be possible to optimize the operation of decentralized plants and improve treatment efficiency. In addition, especial attention was paid to the characteristics of the starting materials used in composting, evaluating the physico-chemical and chemical characteristics of these materials, which are fundamental to understanding their impact on the composting process and how they affect the quality of the final compost. Finally, an exhaustive analysis of the product obtained, i.e., the final compost, was carried out, evaluating parameters such as stability, nutrient content, presence of pathogens and presence of toxic substances. This evaluation allowed us to determine the quality of the compost and its suitability for use in the production process
