The use of bio-interactive, biocompatible, biodegradable and non-toxic biological systems is spreading to many industrial areas. These are commonly referred to as biomaterials and are considered a solution to environmentally harmful materials. Taking into account the large number of materials that currently exist and in order to carry out an objective comparison between different materials and thus be able to select the optimal ones for the development of products and their consequent commercialization, this work has carried out a study on the business model of a new company focused on the characterization of the physicochemical properties and biological properties, focusing on the biocompatibility and bioactivity of these materials. The activities of this business model focus on determining the toxicity and biocompatibility of the composite materials using in vitro (HaCaT cell line) and in vivo (Caenorhabditis elegans) models, the antiviral properties analyzed by antiviral assays against bacteriophage phi 6 as a biosecure model of SARS-CoV-2 and the antibacterial properties studied against the pathogen methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, the physicochemical properties focus on the determination of viscoelasticity by rheology and an elemental chemical analysis. The results showed that when making an objective comparison among all the Spanish companies that have the same activity as the one developed in this business model, it is possible to affirm the need for a high initial investment, which, together with the consolidation of the competition in the market, significantly impairs the viability of the company. Likewise, mergers are proposed as a preventive measure to concentrate the sector and create larger companies with lower risk. Therefore, this work presents a complete diagnosis of the current situation and the needs of the industry according to the biomaterials market trends used to create the competitive, marketing and human resources strategy of the company, once the economic viability data of the business plan has been obtained.
