Abstract

Debido a la crisis inmobiliaria que se inició en 2008 muchos de los vecinos del barrio Alicantino de Carolinas tuvieron que ceder sus casas a los bancos a cambio de un alquiler social. Estas viviendas acabaron en manos de diferentes fondos de inversión, conocidos también como fondos buitres, que ahora quieren poner fin a esos alquileres sociales y echar a quienes llevan allí viviendo años pagando su alquiler. De los propios vecinos surge una red de apoyo mutuo para frenar esta situación creando un sindicato de barrio; el Sindicat de Carolines. Desde este advierten la falta de garantías ante una ciudad y en consecuencia un barrio que ve perplejo como el precio de los alquileres es cada vez más alto, sin ofrecer una alternativa real para quienes no pueden asumirlo. Denuncian también que aún con el “escudo social”, que el gobierno aprobó durante la pandemia del COVID 19 para proteger a los más vulnerables, los desahucios siguen llevándose a cabo, qué pasará entonces cuándo esas medidas dejen de estar vigentes. Los propios vecinos hacen una radiografía de su situación y la del barrio.

As a result of the real estate crisis that began in 2008, many of the residents of the Carolinas neighborhood in Alicante had to give up their homes to the banks in exchange for social rent. These homes ended up in the hands of different investment funds, also known as vulture funds, which now want to put an end to these social rents and kick out those who have been living there for years paying their rent. From the neighbors themselves arises a network of mutual support to stop this situation by creating a neighborhood union; the Sindicat de Carolines. From this they warn of the lack of guarantees in a city and consequently a neighborhood that sees perplexed as the price of rents is increasingly higher, without offering a real alternative for those who can not afford it. They also denounce that even with the "social shield", which the government approved during the COVID 19 pandemic to protect the most vulnerable, evictions continue to be carried out, what will happen then when these measures are no longer in force.
