We consider cinema as a creative agent of global symbolic content; therefore, we are facing a powerful modeler and restructurer of the social imaginary. This consideration is important because the symbolic capital of a person is the basis of their honor, value and recognition within society. Consequently, all social oppressions have a symbolic component inherited from culture.
Knowing that the cinema is part of the socialization of its consumers (just like other media), one might wonder what connections Spanish film production has with the sexist oppression that permeates all social spheres.
To do this, we have focused on the methods of perpetuation of the genre, analyzing the highest grossing Spanish films directed by women and men in the last five years. We can see that the panorama of Spanish cinema has not changed much since a decade ago in terms of equality, this influences the fact that it continues to be a masculinized sector that hardly lets women to create their own content, the first step to fit in a vision of the world more real, less partial, and shared by both sexes.
