INTRODUCTION Cerebral palsy is a developmental disorder caused by immaturity or damage to the brain, which may have occurred during pregnancy or childbirth and is the most common cause of physical disability in children. Animal-assisted therapies are interventions in which a live animal is part of the therapy. The goals and progress of the intervention are elaborated and recorded by a health professional, among the most common intervention animals is the dog, in that case we speak of dog-assisted therapy. The therapy dog must be specifically selected and trained, as well as have all vaccination records up to date in order to take part in the physiotherapy sessions. METHODS This project proposes the basis for a randomised clinical trial to test whether and how the use of dog-assisted therapy as a complementary treatment to ward-based physiotherapy in paediatric patients with cerebral palsy influences gross motor function, manual function, participation in activities of daily living and adherence to treatment. The study would be conducted with a population of 30, in two groups of 15. Group A (GA) receives TAP and physiotherapy in the ward, and Group B (GB) acts as a control and only receives physiotherapy in the ward. The approximate minimum duration is 35 weeks.
