Thanks to its great effectiveness as a fitness system, CrossFit is now chosen by millions
of people around the world as a standard conditioning and strength training program,
with Spain being the second fastest growing market on a global scale in terms of
affiliated centers. However, CrossFit has now become popular among all sectors of the
population. The fact that it is a program designed to be easily adaptable makes it the
perfect training system for anyone regardless of age, gender, ability or previous
experience.
The CrossFit brand has managed to create a loyal and lasting community in a short
period of time, 10 years. The objective of this paper is to analyze what makes CrossFit
so unique: being both a sport and a brand. This will be done through bibliographic
research on the sport and business side, on the one hand, and the analysis of CrossFit's
communication on different social media, on the other hand. For the latter, we will
analyze the official accounts of CrossFit. Inc.'s official Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
accounts, which already have millions of followers in their entirety.
After this analysis, we have detected that practically the same content is published in
all media, and what varies is the format, i.e. the way it is presented, either with an
image or video. Social networks play an important role, not only providing connectivity,
but also providing the platform for their members to share and promote their
experiences and opinions through social channels. As a result, a sense of community
and belonging is generated. The success of the brand is related to the development of
social media and the growth of mobile devices. Thanks to this, CrossFit has so many
followers and brands supporting it.
