Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder characterized by cognitive dysfunction. Integrated Psychological Therapy is one of the main programs of cognitive improvement in schizophrenia after its great empirical support and effectiveness studies. Furthermore, it has been shown to contribute to the improvement of symptomatology and social skills. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to test the effectiveness of the Cognitive Differentiation subprogram of the Integrated Psychological Therapy and to verify that the improvement of cognitive skills has a positive impact on the symptomatological state and social functioning in schizophrenia. To this end, a quasi-experimental study was carried out with a pre-test and post-test evaluation. The Weschler Intelligence Scale for adults, the Brief Psychiatric Assessment Scale and the Social Functioning Scale were used for the evaluation of the variables. In the results of the posttreatment evaluation it was found that the score in the total symptomatology had decreased, while the scores in the cognitive variables (verbal comprehension, processing speed, working memory and IQ) and social functioning (autonomy - execution, social integrity, leisure and interpersonal communication) had increased. The changes were not significant except in the leisure subscale of social functioning. Finally, as a conclusion, the results suggest that the Cognitive Differentiation subscale improves cognitive skills, symptomatological status and social functioning.
