Spain invested more than eleven million euros in funding for twenty feature fiction films in English which were co-produced with the United Kingdom and/or the United States between 2005 and 2019. These films included at least one Spanish actress or actor in their casts or one scene set in Spain. In them, the construction of characters played by Spaniards shared a series of specific physical and psycho-logical characteristics which seem to fre-quently refer to the archetypes of the femme fatale and the Casanova through their nationally stereotyped personifica-tions in the myths of Mérimée’s Carmen and Zorrilla’s Don Juan. Moreover, it seems clear that both UK and US viewers recognize this stereotypical representation of the Spanish identity in reviews about these twenty films that are published openly on IMDB.com and Amazon. Reviewers also even make direct mentions to specific stereotypes on the one hand and generalizations applicable to the entire Spanish population on the other. The results of this work point out the apparent (hyper)sexualization to which both Spanish actresses and actors seem to be relegated to in this type of international co-productions made in English
