The present work for the end of university degree shows a proposal for intervention for children
diagnosed of cáncer, in which are presented strategies to use to promote the correct
psychomotor development and the acquisition of the necessary skills to obtain the greater
autonomy in the basic activities of the Daily life (ADL) and improve their quality of life. It
consists of individualized interventions based on the intrinsic motivation in which families will
be included at all times.
The objective of this work is to promote the incorporation of occupational therapy in pediatric
oncology in the hospital setting.
The intervention proposal will be designed according to two stages, one aimed at the prevention
of alterations in the development of children during cancer treatments in pediatric oncology
units and another aimed at the rehabilitation of the sequelae produced by the disease after have
overcome it.
The characteristics to be taken into account when performing the interventions will be their
cynical characteristics, age, level of development in the different areas, sensorial profile,
functionality and autonomy in ADL and perception of quality of life.
The specific programs are oriented to the stimulation of psychomotor development, training and
acquisition in ABVDs and adaptation of the environment, destined to favor the overall
development and independence of the child.
The figure of the occupational therapist in the hospital is still little recognized, so it is necessary
to defend its capacity to act and demonstrate the multiple benefits it can offer
