The objective of this research is to look for scientific evidence about the technique of the autonomy improvement and sensorimotor integration made by occupational therapists. An updated literature search was conducted on the intervention of occupational therapy in intellectual disability through sensorimotor integration programs and the improvement of autonomy in adults with intellectual disabilities, making use of Pubmed, Scopus and Medline information sources. A total of 20 articles were selected, buy finally it was reduced by the inclusion and exclusion criteria to a total of 5 studies. The reality of the use of sensorimotor integration techniques and the improvement of autonomy from Occupational Therapy in adults with intellectual disabilities is ambiguous and scarce. The results of the autonomy and sensorimotor integration therapy are positive. The evidence is understood by the methodological limitations of existing studies, there is not enough literature to reach a firm conclusion. Therefore, there is a need for more tests with a well-characterized sample
