Objetive: The aim of the study was describing the psychosocial variables and the occupation ability based on a sample of pregnant women, and analysing the execution patterns according to the anxiety level in this population.
Method: A sample of 26 pregnant women from 18 years old to 41 years old was evaluated. These women were at the Health Centres of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras located in Murcia (Spain). In this study, socio-demographic variables, execution patterns (habits, routines and social position), psychosocial variables (coping with pregnancy, social support ) and anxiety (n = 26) were evaluated. The sample was divided into two groups, low anxiety symptomatology (n = 15) and high anxiety symptomatology (n = 11). A comparison was made between the execution patterns and psychosocial variables among both groups. The statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS program, 21st version. Results: The results of this study showed that anxiety during pregnancy interferes with sleep and leisure pattern . A large proportion of women suffering from high anxiety reported sleeping 8 to 10 (15.4% vs 23.1%) or 4 to 6 hours (15.4% vs 19.2%). Nevertheless, most women experiencing low anxiety slept 6 to 8 hours (46.2%). Thus, high anxiety symptomatology group reported having stopped enjoying leisure during the pregnancy, unlike low anxiety symptomatology group(38.5% vs 26.9%). Conclusions: Anxiety during pregnancy is a factor that may influence the welfare of pregnant women affecting sleep and leisure patterns. Occupational Therapy should work on the design and programme evaluation with the main aim of regulating the sleep and leisure patterns in pregnant women suffering from anxiety.
