Introduction: Judo is a martial art and contact sport of Japanese origin. This is practiced
on a tatami and barefoot. As in other sports, injuries can happen and specifically, the most
injured areas are the lower extremities. Objectives: 1) Determinate which lesions are the
most prevalent in the lower extremities in judo athletes. 2) Determinate which anatomical
regions are the most susceptible to injury in the lower limbs. Material and methods: A
PubMed database search was performed (Table 1), without a limit of years, on January 24,
2018. The key words used were: judo, injuries, prevalence, lower extremity and lower extremity.
For the PubMed search the elements or filters used were: 1) Humans e 2) Languages:
English, French and Spanish. Results: After the selection criteria, 4 were the selected
studies. Two of the studies ranked sprains, contusions, fractures and dislocations as
the most prevalent injuries. A third study, listed fractures, sprains, dislocations and injuries
as predominant lesions, and finally, the last study concluded that contusions, sprains,
abrasions and dislocations were the injuries that occurred in greater number. As for the
anatomical region with the highest prevalence of injuries, we found the knee. Discussion:
There is a high prevalence of injuries affecting the lower limbs in judo athletes. However,
there is controversy in the position in which it appears and which anatomical region is most
affected, in second and third place. Conclusions: Sprains, contusions, fractures and dislocations
are the most prevalent injuries. There is controversy in the positioning of the injuries.
The area that is most frequently injuries is the knee. As for the ankle and foot region
there is controversy in which it is injured in second and third place.
