Objective: Movement and orientation análisis in a virtual cave (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment - CAVE) so it can be used as reference for future studies focused on rehabilitation of people with visual deterioration through the usage of virtual environments. Materials and methods: The commercial platform of virtual cave Nemty has been used, developed by the company Insead Technologies SL. For this study the cave is being used through the inner screens of the simulator and through the Virtual Reality Glasses (VR glasses), using in both cases only one environment. The virtual environment BlockCity has been developed specifically for the mobility and orientation evaluation of the subjects and it is formed by a 48 meters Street where random obstacles are generated. In the experiment data about the mean velocity and the errors of eight subjects during ten days has been taken. Each day, each of the users has performed four trials avoiding the obstacles, in which it has been simulated diferente deterioration of the visión in the BlockCity environment. Results: The data of the paths done in the BlockCity environment, has shown a significant difference among both use modes in the cave and an improvement has been registered, both in velocity and in errors made. Also, in the simulated visual disabilities significant differences in only one of the simulations has been registered. Conclusions: First, develop a virtual environment for the evaluation of subjects mobility has been achieved. When the use of screens and virtual reality glasses are compared, significant differences are presented, both in mean velocity as in errors made. On the other hand, it is proved that an improvement along the experiment exists, so, in a future study Will be possible to completely establish the learning curve. Lastly, data show that significant differences exist in mean velocity in one of the simulated pathologies, meanwhile, for the errors made, the significant differences among simulations are null.
