Introduction: The concept of playing-related musculoskeletal disorder is “any pain, weakness, lack of control, numbness, tingling, or other symptoms that interfere with your ability to play your instrument at the level you are accustomed to.” The annual prevalence of playing-related musculoskeletal disorders in string players has been shown to be 74.2%. Musicians, especially the young ones, appear to hold some acceptance that experiencing pain during the process of practicing is normal. The persistently high prevalence of PRMDs worldwide suggests that effective management and prevention is not yet being consistently implemented in music education and the professional music environment. Objective: To know the scientific evidence of the last five years about the prevalence and risk factors of musculoskeletal injuries in string musicians, as well as the most commonly affected areas and whether future preventive plans are needed. Methods: The searches were carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and PEDro databases. Results: Fourteen articles were reviewed after established inclusion and exclusion criteria were overcome. Among them, thirteen are observational studies and one is an exploratory qualitative research. Conclusion: Prevalence among string players is frighteningly high and the most affected areas in this population are the upper limbs and the neck. It is not certainly concluded what the risk factors are. Keywords: “PRMD”, “string”, “injuries”, “players” y “prevalence”.
