Bodybuilding is booming. It is a sport that is on the rise; however, it is weakened by the problems that coexist with it, bigorexia and illegal supplements. This sport has tripled its federation licences over the past five years. Moreover, it has nearly doubled the number of championships during the same period, with nearly one hundred in 2019. Nevertheless, bigorexia – the obsessive mental disorder about the perception of our bodies- is most evident and bodybuilding is a sport that has a high risk of suffering from this disorder. In addition, despite the deep control applied, the use of doping substances still prevails. In fact, 19 competitors are currently punished. That is a real issue that stains the image of this respectable sport and it does not seem that these banned substances and bigorexia will disappear in the short term. That is the good and the bad of bodybuilding.
