The competency-based approach has transformed education, integrating constructivist principles with social and contextual elements. This paradigm, adopted in the Spanish educational system since the approval of the LOE (2006), continues to be the subject of analysis due to the need to better understand how it impacts the development of students' reflective skills. The research focused on examining this relationship, based on the hypothesis that the competency-based approach could positively influence these skills by promoting active and constructive learning. Using a systematic review, recent literature was analyzed, identifying the main strategies to improve the development of competencies in physical education. Findings highlighted the importance of promoting dialogic and cooperative learning environments, addressing individual student preferences, employing formative assessment, integrating innovative technologies, and fostering cultural awareness and inclusion. Despite progress, challenges persist, such as the lack of consensus between experts and teachers, and the need for greater teacher training. The practical contributions that the study made included promoting dialogic learning, addressing individual preferences, integrating technology, promoting cultural awareness and providing continuous support to teachers, and were used as means to improve educational practice, inclusion and the comprehensive development of students. students in the field of physical education
