The low levels of organic matter in soils and the aridity of southeastern Spain make the contribution of organic matter and irrigation control essential for the optimization of agronomic resources. This work was carried out in a Navel orange plantation located in the municipality of Almoradí (Alicante) and studied the possible combined effect of two variables, irrigation and organic fertilization, on different parameters. The treatments applied were 1) fertilization variable: no amendment (E0), 30kg/tree (E30) and 60kg/tree (E60) and 2) irrigation variable: irrigation without reduction (D0), irrigation reduced to 25% (D25) and irrigation reduced to 50% (D50).
The influence of the treatments on soil was analyzed by means of a univariate and multivariate statistical analysis in which the time factor was also taken into account. The effectiveness of the treatments on tree yield and fruit quality was statistically analyzed. Likewise, the evolution of the nutritional status at the foliar level from the beginning until fruit harvest was analyzed. C sequestration and C fixation in the plant were evaluated. Finally, the cumulative emission of greenhouse gases in the amended soil and the influence of study variables were studied.
