Juvenile delinquency generates great social alarm because of the repercussions it has for society and for minors themselves. Moreover, it is an increasingly frequent problem. Juvenile offenders show a deficit in their emotional development as well as in variables such as empathy, socialisation or communicative processes. On the other hand, previous studies show that there are several benefits of working on emotional intelligence with the adolescent population. For this reason, this paper presents an intervention programme focused on emotional intelligence aimed at reducing delinquent behaviour in juvenile offenders residing in a detention centre. This programme is based on the Emotional Intelligence Model of Mayer and Salovey (1997) and consists of 10 sessions that work on emotional perception, facilitation, understanding and regulation through various practical activities. The aim is for children to perceive and express emotions appropriately, to use them to facilitate thinking, to understand what they feel and the aspects related to it, and to control emotions in themselves and in others.
