Alcoy y sus trabajadoras a través de las fuentes documentales

Abstract

El presente artículo pretende demostrar la presencia de mujeres trabajadoras en las industrias alcoyanas a partir del uso de fuentes históricas. Entre otros puntos clave, se anali-zan las principales industrias locales, las edades de las mu-jeres, la segregación sexual, la discriminación, los empleos a los que optaban, etc. Para ello, se ha empleado una fuente histórica primaria muy concreta: el Padrón Municipal de Ha-bitantes de Alcoy de 1890. A partir del estudio y análisis de los datos contenidos en sus páginas, ha sido posible extraer suficiente información como para confeccionar una serie de gráficos y tablas que esquematizan esa información y per-miten corroborar la hipótesis de que, en efecto, las mujeres trabajaron en la sociedad industrial alcoyana de finales del s. XIX

This article aims to demonstrate the presence of working women in the Alcoy industries based on the use of historical sources. Among other key points, it analyses the main local industries, the ages of the women, sexual segregation, dis-crimination, the jobs they applied for, etc. For this purpose, a very specific primary historical source has been used: the 1890 Municipal Register of Inhabitants of Alcoy. From the study and analysis of the data contained in its pages, it has been possible to extract sufficient information to produce a series of graphs and tables that outline this information and allow the hypothesis to be corroborated that women did in-deed work in Alcoy’s industrial society at the end of the 19th century
