Una sociedad agro-pastoril: reseña crítica de Propietarios, Lavradores e Jornaleiras de Brian O'Neill

Abstract

Con esta revisión crítica pretendemos analizar el trabajo Propietários, Lavradores e Jornaleiras con el cual Brian O'Neill pretende dar a conocer la organización en comunidad de una sociedad agro-pastoril en el norte de Portugal, en la frontera con España, con duración de más de cien años, el cual forma parte de una corriente académica etnográfica para el estudio de este tipo de sociedades en el mundo mediterráneo. Los determinantes de la división y explotación del terri-torio, el acceso a las herramientas de trabajo, el sistema de uniones matrimoniales, así como el contacto con aquello que se halla en el exterior de la comunidad con el fin de exponer las desigualdades sociales más significativas en una sociedad que, antes que nada, debería estar compuesta por elementos igualitarios. El análisis crítico de la obra en sí se presentará en el contexto y la evolución de la Etnografía en Portugal

With this critical review, we intend to analyze the work of Brian O'Neill, Propietários, Lavradores e Jornaleiras, which seeks to inform the community organization of an agro-pastoral society in the north of Portugal, over more than a hundred years, on the border with Spain, which forms part of a current. academic in ethnography to study this type of societies in the Mediterranean world. The determinants of the division and exploitation of the territory, access to work tools, the system of marital unions, as well as contact with what is outside the community to ex-pose marked social inequalities in a society that, in the be-ginning, it would be composed of egalitarian elements. The critical analysis of the work will present itself in the context and evolution of Ethnography in Portugal
