This article analyzes the social and labor conditions of the journalistic profession
through the testimonies of several journalists of the guild and the Madrid Press
Association’s anual reports. From this publication I will study the situation that has
been experienced from 2005 to 2015, with the objective of extracting a representative
sample broad enough to compare and draw conclusions. Based on this document I will
examine issues such as salary, schedules, sexism, the level of trade unionism or the
reconciliation of personal and professional life. After having clear these factors, I will
consult several specialists in the field of Psychology who will give me their vision on
the matter, relating the previous information with models such as Demand - Control of
Karasek. They will also present their conclusions about possible pathologies that
journalists might suffer because of the detriment of their conditions, such as the burnout
syndrome or distress.
